EMS

Toxicology

The EMS rotation serves as a fundamental introduction to all aspects of a high performance hospital-based EMS system. Residents have the opportunity to observe the 911 dispatch process and participate in field responses, including air medical with our flight team if they choose to. Residents also have the opportunity to engage pre-hospital staff in educational didactics, and gain perspective on the emergency physician’s role in the EMS system of care delivery.

Ultrasound

At our hospital, we take pride in learning ultrasound in order to take care of our patients. That's we offer daily ultrasound scanning rotations with weekly quality reviews of images for our ultrasound rotation. This ensures that our patients receive accurate and timely diagnoses, and that our staff is held to the highest standards of excellence.

Community ER Rotation

Second year residents spend three weeks at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center to gain experience working in a community Emergency Department.

Toxicology  – During their PGY-3 year, residents will complete a 2 week clinical Toxicology rotation in house with our toxicology faculty. The rotation incorporates an evidence based approach to the evaluation and treatment of the toxicology patient.  Our toxicology faculty is also trained in addiction medicine which allows our residents to participate in addiction medicine consults during their rotation.

St. Croix

During their PGY-3 elective block, residents can opt to spend 4 weeks on the island of St. Croix, USVI at Gov. Juan Luis Hospital’s Emergency Department. Residents are exposed to a myriad of pathology and gain a memorable training experience.

Administration

During this two-week immersive experience, residents will have a unique opportunity to delve into the administrative side of emergency medicine. Residents will engage in important departmental meetings pertinent to the day-to-day functions of a busy ED within a complex hospital environment. This elective will allow residents to explore topics relevant to leadership, operations, quality, and patient safety.
